Re: We’re angry, uneducated and unhealthy. Now what?

Dave Winer wrote a post today that reminded me why I read him: a lot of the time, I’ll read something that leaves me almost breathless in its combination of muddled-thinking and wishful-thinking. And, after a brief “what?”, I’ll just move on.
Dave, on the other hand, takes the time to point out the flaws in people’s thinking. When you think about it, his willingness to take the time to do so, and do so publicly, is a form of public service few of us match.
This snippet summarizes, almost perfectly, my feelings about the Clinton’s attempts to constantly move the goals around and the recent set of claims that Obama isn’t the victor because, well, Michigan needs to be counted.
Obama looked at how the nominating process was laid out and then built an organization and strategy to win on the terms of the system, rather than close his eyes and try to hit the target and then blame the game for his loss as Clinton and her supporters are doing.
Which kind of President would you rather have — one who accepts the world as it is and then maps out a way to win, or one that grouses at how irrational it is.
Obama’s got flaws, but the man ran a more focused, more realistic, and more grounded, campaign. His team understood the rules and figured out how to win.
To me, that’s the end of it. The past month has been a huge embarassment for the Democratic party1 .
- And, of course, if they were susceptible to embarassment, for the Clintons.↩
