Another Reason to Like Rails
William Grosso @ August 3, 2006
I like Rails. It’s a nice framework for web applications. I think that if you’re developing web applications, even if you’re not using Rails, you have reason to be thankful: most of the other frameworks are now trying to catch-up and that means that everyone building web apps has an easier time of it (except, of course, for the enterprise developers who are still thinking about switching to Struts. But, even there, the impact will be felt. It just takes longer).
Another thing that Rails has done is changed the way new frameworks and libraries are rolled out. It’s not enough to announce them, and deliver source code and documentation.
No. Now you need to have a movie as well.
Today, Streamlined made their movie available.
I hope someone’s saving all these movies. Years from now, when we try to reconstruct the past, the movies will be important.
It’d also be great to have a single source for all the movies. Something like www.developmentmovies.com, you know? Whenever anyone releases a movie documenting their framework, they could upload it to the movie server.
And since the movie server would have an RSS feed, everyone would be able to see a brief description of the new framework, and download the movie if they think it might be valuable.
